Eye Movements and Multifocal contact lenses

During the reading, fine and extremely quick eye movements broken by short fixations are performed. Eye movement assessment can provide important information about the effectiveness of an optical correction. We are studying eye movements in persons with presbyopia corrected with contact lenses in collaboration with the IRCCS Fondazione Santa Lucia (Dott.ssa De Luca e Prof. Zoccolotti). After an early study conducted with presbyopic people corrected with monovision contact lenses (one eye corrected for distance and the other one for near vision) [Zeri et al. (2018), Pattern of reading eye movements during monovision contact lens wear in presbyopes. Scientific reports, 8(1), 15574] a new research study has been started to evaluate the effect of multifocal contact lens on eye movements during reading.
