The COMiB group and its collaborators will participate in the Optometry Symposium of the 110th National Congress of the Italian Physical Society in Bologna (9-13 September) with the following oral communications:
Download the final version of the article “Tear biomarkers” by Erika Ponzini, published in Advances in Clinical Chemistry.
The paper “In-vitro dehydration kinetics coefficient of Kalifilcon A and other contact lens materials” published on Scientific Reports by Erika Ponzini, Francesco Maspero, Anna Galli and Silvia Tavazzi is available online as open access article.
The paper “Comparing automated and manual assessments of tear break-up time using different non-invasive devices and a fluorescein procedure” published on Scientific Reports by Fabrizio Zeri, Giulia Carlotta Rizzo, Erika Ponzini & Silvia Tavazzi is now available online.
Visual care should be an integral part of multidisciplinary care for complex diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)- AISLA stresses. Eye pointing is the last movement that allows people with ALS, in the most advanced stages of the disease, to communicate. Since 2016, the optometric service coordinated by Dr. Federica Cozza has been active at the Nemo Clinical Center in Milan. Taking care of visual function occurs from diagnosis throughout the disease course. This has made it possible to successfully perform cataract surgery on a person who has been living with the disease since 2009, thanks to the collaboration of three teams (Nemo Clinical Centers, Nemo Lab and Fondazione Sacra Famiglia in Cesano Boscone).
Fabrizio Zeri with Shehzad Naroo (on the left) from Aston University (UK) and Craig Woods (on the right) from the University of New South Wales (Australia) presented a talk titled “Evidence-based teaching of contact lenses” as invited speakers at the 4th World Conference of International Association of Contact Lens Educators held in Birmingham on 5th-8th June.
On 1st June, Fabrizio Zeri presented three papers as invited speaker at the CSO Annual Conference held at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence (It). The papers were titled: “Open field aberrometry: a wide look into the future”, “Enhancing the tear film assessment: the Dry Eye Report”, and “Is automatic NIBUT reliable?”.
Alessandro Borghesi, professor emeritus of Milano-Bicocca and director of COMiB, was awarded the Francesco Ferrante National Optometry Award, established at the initiative of the family and a group of colleagues of the optometrist who died in 1986.
Professor Borghesi, who was the first in Italy to promote the activation of a graduate course in Optics and Optometry (established since 2001 at the University of Milano-Bicocca), has been coordinating the activities of COMiB since 2015.
