The episode featured Prof. Silvia Tavazzi, Chair of the Bachelor’s Degree in Optics and Optometry and the Master’s Degree in Optometry and Vision Science at the University of Milano-Bicocca.
At the center of the conversation: an exciting innovation involving contact lenses integrated with biocompatible nanoparticles that allow the perception of infrared light. This advancement opens new frontiers not only for vision enhancement but also for potential applications in healthcare, safety, and augmented reality.
Prof. Tavazzi guided listeners through the scientific and technological foundations of the project, offering insights into how research in optics and optometry is shaping the future of visual experiences.

Dr. Erika Ponzini was invited as a speaker at the VisionOttica Award 2025 ceremony held in Turin on May 12, where she delivered an engaging talk entitled: “Beyond the Lens: AI in Modern Contact Lens Practice” — a forward-looking insight into how artificial intelligence is transforming contactology.

A permanent exhibition celebrating two prominent figures in the history of science and technology, Arnaldo Chierichetti, a Milanese optician who lived in the early 1900s, and Giuseppe “Beppo” Occhialini, a world-renowned physicist and pioneer of space research, has opened at the University of Milano-Bicocca.
